"WE ARE ALL BROKEN."
Exhibition Design
“We Are All Broken.” is a site-specific exhibition on gun violence, located at the Colt Armory in Coltsville National Historical Park. This exhibition contains a group of artworks with different media and format all relating to gun violence. The building is preserved while a gallery space is designed corresponding to the original manufacture structure. Taking advantage of the linearity of the space, the exhibition consists of a series of vertical walls, gradually rising in height. With the gap between two opposite walls getting progressively narrower, a sense of oppression from the environment increases.
This exhibition aims to create a connected, monumental environment, built on a shared brokenness, for raising questions, for discussion, for memorizing, and for healing. As Bryan Stevenson stated in Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption: “We are all broken by something. We have all hurt someone and have been hurt. We all share the condition of brokenness even if our brokenness is not equivalent.”
